Congratulations to Fayette County commissioners-elect Steve Brown and Allen McCarty. You listened to what the people were saying, addressed their concerns and we elected you.
Go make us proud.
Thank you to Commissioners Jack Smith and Eric Maxwell for your service. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.
It’s my sincere hope there will be no lame duck mischief in the period from now to the installation of the new commissioners in January.
The current commission’s refusal to stop the West Fayetteville Bypass was a major factor in changing the names on the doors at the commission offices. It should be abundantly clear by now that the people of Fayette County don’t want their tax dollars wasted on a road that goes nowhere.
Please do not continue to move forward on design and engineering for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the West Fayetteville Bypass. We will be watching to see if you stop the process or continue to ignore us.
At one of the forums, Eric Maxwell admitted the transportation SPLOST passed by a razor-thin margin in the first place. He also made it clear the funds for one project could be transferred to another SPLOST project. Let’s work on doing that as soon as possible.
Sometimes the voting public tolerate a mistake. We all make mistakes. However, the citizens of this county aren’t going to tolerate being ignored. On the West Fayetteville Bypass, we have been blatantly ignored by our elected officials.
When the county commissioners can’t adequately justify a major expense, like the bypass, that equals nearly three-quarters of our county’s annual budget, we have a substantial problem. The excuses have dried up and it’s time to act.
The pictures in the newspapers with all the elected office holders smiling in support of Road to Nowhere supporters didn’t fool anyone. If Governor Perdue and our two U.S. Senators were in the photo, it wouldn’t have made a bit of difference. Those office-holders had better stop patting each other on the backs and start paying attention to the hard-working people who elected them.
The voting public isn’t removing incumbent politicians for the fun of it. Incumbents fall because they seek something other than serving their constituents. The West Fayetteville Bypass is the perfect example.
As for the remaining three commissioners, you know what we want of you. If you don’t work with the new people on honoring the wishes of the people, you know what to expect.
Give us something to cheer about in these bad economic times. Stop the bypass and use our tax dollars efficiently.
