Music-filled weekend at ‘The Fred’

The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater will be rocking this weekend as it plays host to two nights of music. On Friday, July 9 the World Classic Rockers take the stage. The band features former members of groups Lynyrd Skynyrd, Toto, Santana, Steppenwolf, Journey and Boston playing classic rock hits. Then on Saturday, July 10 ‘The Fred’ plays host to a night of blues with Boz Scaggs as the part of the 2010 BMW of South Atlanta Summer Concert Series.

The highly-requested World Classic Rockers are back again. The band played ‘The Fred’ in 2009 receiving rave reviews from the crowd with hits such as “Free Bird”, “Born to be Wild”, “Africa”, and “Black Magic Woman” just to name a few. The band features Nick St. Nicholas (Steppenwolf), Greg Walker (Santana), Fergie Frederiksen (Toto), Michael Monarch (Steppenwolf), Randall Hall (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Aynsley Dunbar (Journey), and Fran Cosmo (Boston). Kicking off the show at 8 p.m. will be the winner of the 2010 Fred Open Mic, The Dirty Roots Band. The World Classic Rockers will take the stage at 9 p.m. Tickets in the reserved seating are $25 and available for purchase on-line at www.amphitheater.org or at ‘The Fred’ box office. On Saturday head back to ‘The Fred’ as Boz Scaggs takes the stage with his blues-rock sound. Boz Scaggs is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who started his career as a member of the Steve Miller Band, and then went on to gain fame as a solo artist in the 1970’s with several top 20 hits including “Lowdown”, and “Lido Shuffle”. Boz Scaggs will play ‘The Fred’ on Saturday night following a performance by special guest slide-guitarist and singer-songwriter David Jacobs-Strain. Gates open at 7 p.m., opener David Jacobs-Strain is on at 8 p.m., and Boz Scaggs will perform at 9 p.m. Tickets are still available to purchase for the event on-line at www.amphitheater.org, or by visiting the box office.

The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater is a 2,500 seat state-of-the art facility owned and operated by the city of Peachtree City. “The Fred” box office is located at 201 McIntosh Trail, and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Box office will be open starting at 9:00 a.m. on concert day.
