Frances McElveen Battles, 86, formerly of Fayette County, passed away on May 2, 2010, at Christian City Convalescent Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Mark Battles. Frances retired from the Fulton County Board of Education after over ten years as secretary at North Avenue Elementary School in Hapeville. She was a member of Hapeville United Methodist Church for 60 years where she was active in the United Methodist Women and member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Frances was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing for herself and her two daughters and will always be remembered for her ever present smile.

She was a devoted wife to Mark and a beloved mother to her daughters, Ann Randolph of Cordova, TN and Cathy and Don White of Fayetteville. Frances is also survived by her sister, Annette Smith of Deland, FL and her grandchildren Jennifer Pearce of Cordova, Daniel and Allison Randolph of Collierville, TN, Donald and Amanda White of Sharpsburg, and David White of Norman, OK and six great-grandchildren as well as four nephews and a niece.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in the Fayetteville Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home with Reverend Paige Pritchard officiating. Interment will be at Camp Memorial Park, in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Christian City, 7345 Red Oak Rd., Union City, GA 30291 or Hapeville Methodist Church, 3510 Atlanta Ave., Hapeville, GA 30354 .
