Suspect denied having sex with victim; turned himself in March 18

An Atlanta man has been arrested in connection with the May 23, 2009 rape of a woman in Peachtree City.

Eddie Junior Smith, 28, was arrested yesterday when he turned himself in

after warrants were issued for his arrest, police said.

The investigation began when an officer was dispatched to Piedmont Fayette Hospital for a possible rape case May 23. The victim told the officer that she believed she was raped in the morning by Smith, police said.

A rape kit was completed at the hospital and sent to the crime lab for analysis, police said. Meanwhile Smith, interviewed later by police, denied having sexual intercourse with the victim, police said.

The GBI test results showing a positive match for Smith were obtained this month by the police department, which issued the warrant for his arrest on one count of rape.
