Music fans are in for a treat with four more concerts to choose from the summer schedule at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater.
“The spotlight concerts represent a variety of musical genres and help to round out our season for 2010” said Nancy Price, manager of The Fred. “We are excited to offer everything from rock and beach music to N.Y. and Las Vegas shows which will be a first for our venue. We truly have something for everyone.”
Beginning on June 19, “Oh What a Night! a musical tribute to the music of Franki Valli and the Four Seasons” will kick off the spotlight concerts. “Oh What A Night!” Is a high energy celebration of the songs made famous by The Four Seasons. This exhilarating trip back to the early days of rock and roll features favorites like “Walk Like a Man”, “Let’s Hang On”, “Sherry” and many many others. Return to the 1960’s when rock was fun, everyone knew the words and every song made you want to dance. The professional N.Y. cast includes Taylor Buice, Scott Gofta, Chris Murrah and Jared Bradshaw. The musical director and arranger is Aaron Gandy, originally from Fayetteville.
July 2 will bring the “Party Band of the South”, the Swingin’ Medallions back to the Fred. The group’s signature high-energy style delights audiences of all ages. Their act, as well as their music, is indeed timeless. The band was founded in 1962 by John McElrath and now includes his two sons, Shawn and Shane. Featuring an ever-popular horn section, the group effectively blends the sounds and music of yesterday and today. The band has performed through out the nation in thousands of venues. Their diverse repertoire has made them overwhelming favorites with college audiences as well as the more mature rock and rollers. The band was made famous by its 1.2 million selling hit album, “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love”, in 1966. It remains the signature song of the band.
Back by popular demand, on July 9 The Fred will again host the World Classic Rockers. This dynamic group is without a doubt the world’s greatest all-star rock n’ roll band featuring original members of Toto, Steppenwolf, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Boston, Journey and Santana! Performing their famous hit songs like Born To Be Wild, Sweet Home Alabama, Black Magic Woman, Magic Carpet Ride, Evil Ways, Rosanna, Africa and a host of other classic rock songs.
Also back by popular demand that day will be the World Classic Rockers On-Stage Pass-The Ultimate Rock Fantasy Camp. Local musicians will have the opportunity to apply for a chance to perform on stage that night with the band. If chosen to participate in the camp, they will have a specially prepared lunch served to them at the cast house where they will dine with the performers from WCR, attend the band’s sound check as their special guests and jam on stage with them following the camp session. A little bit of Las Vegas is coming to the Fred for the final spotlight for the 2010 season. On Sept. 24, The Rat Pack is Back will transform the Fred stage to the Sands Hotel Copa Room, with some of Las Vegas most famous entertainers and their live 12 piece big band. The only Vegas based show with national touring companies and an award from the Congress of the United States. Now in its 11th smash year with over 4,500 performances in over 34 states and three foreign countries the Rat Pack promises to be favorite for young and old.
Tickets for the spotlight concerts vary according to concert, but are reasonably priced from $20-$25 for reserved seating and will go on sale Mar. 15 to the general public. Series ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase them in advance on Friday, March 12.
