The installation of the “continuous green T” intersection approved last year for Ga. Highway 54 West at Line Creek Drive in Peachtree City is underway. Expected to be completed early next year, construction of the intersection is occurring during non-rush hour periods.

Approved in July 2014, the continuous green T intersection is being positioned along Hwy. 54 West at Line Creek Drive between Planterra Way on the east and MacDuff Parkway on the west. The new intersection is expected to be completed in early 2016.

The signalized intersection will allow westbound traffic to flow through continuously without stopping. To accomplish this, traffic on the northern part of the intersection will be restricted to a right-in, right-out while any traffic turning left out of The Overlook shopping center to go west will queue into a merge line that will be constructed in the median.

Construction of the new intersection project is occurring between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. so that construction activities can avoid rush-hour traffic in the already traffic-heavy section of Hwy. 54.

The cost of the intersection is the responsibility of The Overlook retail area developer, Trinity Development on the south side of Hwy. 54 at Line Creek Drive. The Overlook and businesses in the immediate area will be served by the new intersection.

In addition to the new intersection, site preparation work is underway on the property situated on the south side of the intersection that will be home to a RaceTrac Neighborhood Center and a Chick-fil-A restaurant and, further to the south and higher in elevation, the site of The Overlook retail area. Both sites will be accessed by Line Creek Drive.

The new intersection was approved by the Peachtree City Council in July 2014 on a 4-1 vote, with Councilman Eric Imker the lone dissenting vote.

The intersection was subsequently approved by the Ga. Department of Transportation.
