Dear Dr. Barrow,

It has been announced in The Citizen that FCBOE is purchasing equipment from a Chinese state-run company, Hikvision, that is tied to ethnic cleansing of Uyghurs.

Furthermore, this company is currently banned from federal contracting in the U.S. as per the announcement in the Federal Register:

Please explain in a public forum why the FCBOE has:

• Made such an Orwellian move to monitor our children with facial recognition

• Supports a company involved in the ethnic cleansing of an entire minority group in China

• Is violating the recommendations for contracting that Federal agencies must follow

Recently I would not buy a $12.99 dress for my granddaughter because the label said ‘Made In China.” That was my choice. The FCBOE’s choices are limited by federal regulations.Mr. Steele writes above that FCBOE is not allowed to purchase from Hilvision. The company is currently banned from federal contracting in the U.S. as per the announcement in the Federal Register. Perhaps we could consider reporting the FCBOE for failure to observe the law.

Thanks Mike for sending this in, no need for response or comments from FCBOE but rather an outright cancellation of this transaction. Whether the equipment is needed is a different topic and can be purchased elsewhere

Had the FCBOE commented on Mr. Steele’s questions into buying materials from a banned Chinese company. Since the FCDOE typically ignores community concern, I doubt that they have reached out to anyone. True or false FCBOE ???
