Deaths jump 100 in a day to 329; confirmed Covid-19 cases soar 1,504 to 8,818; 442 more hospital beds occupied; Fayette up to 79 cases, 4 deaths — 

Here’s the Covid-19 pandemic report from the Georgia Department of Public Health for midday, April 7:

Total test-confirmed cases statewide: 8,818, which is 1,504 more than the previous day’s total of 7,314, an increase of 20.5%. This represents the single largest single-day increase so far in the pandemic.

Statewide deaths: 329, an increase of 100 fatalities over the previous day’s total of 229, which is 43.6% higher than the report one day earlier. (Yesterday’s increase was 18 new fatalities, an 8.5% increase.) This represents the most deaths in a single day in Georgia so far in the coronavirus pandemic.

State Covid-19 death rate: 3.73% of all confirmed cases reported

Fayette County: Confirmed infections  — 79 with 4 deaths (No breakout of how many in hospital)

Coweta County: Confirmed infections  — 79 with 2 deaths (No breakout of how many in hospital)

Hospitalized: 1,774 in hospital beds statewide, which is 20.12% of the total confirmed cases, compared to 1,332 in hospitals one day earlier, an increase of 442 newly hospitalized patients (33.1% increase over the previous day) across the state of Georgia. That compares with 49 newly hospitalized patients April 6, an increase of 3.8% over the previous day. The number of newly hospitalized patients is the largest in one day so far in the Covid-19 pandemic.

Total coronavirus tests: 33,713 by private and state labs, which represents 2,439 (7.7%) more tests than the 31,274 tests one day earlier.

Total positive tests: 8,818 so far with all testing, a positive confirmation rate of 26.1% of the total tests administered. Roughly 1 out of every 4 tests administered comes back with a positive reading on the presence of coronavirus.
