Mr. C. Harold Joiner, 79, of Fayetteville, passed away on February 21, 2011.

He was born in Laurens County, GA, to the late Cordie and Vera Gilder Joiner. He is preceded in death by his brother Charles Joiner.

He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Journalism. He served as an International Youth Exchange in Germany and proudly served two years in the Army. He was active in 4-H work throughout his life and was the president of the Georgia Master 4-H Club several times and worked as Farm Editor for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for 11 years. He served as President of the National Farm Editors Association. He joined George T. Smith’s campaign for Lt. Governor in 1966, after which he became executive director of Georgia Forestry Association. Later, he owned a printing business and was in real estate.

He was an active member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church for 30 years where he served as Deacon and was the Sunday School Department Director and was President of Young at Heart. He loved his church, his family, University of GA football, Fayette County Lady Tigers Softball, and the Democratic Party of Georgia. He also loved writing stories about growing up in the country. He loved people and loved dearly to make them laugh. He was a caring, compassionate friend, a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Helen Sears Joiner; daughter Jill Lori Joiner; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Overton Chapel of Fayetteville First Baptist Church with Dr. Harold Zwald and Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Mr. Joiner will lie in state at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
