Tired of the cold weather?  Tired of being cooped up?  Then here’s the chance for your family to step out and socialize once again. For the 19th year in a row the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City will hold its annual Pancake Saturday on Jan. 29.

This is not just a breakfast, but the premier family-oriented mid-winter social event in Peachtree City.  Friends and neighbors come together to share a meal and enjoy each other’s company while having a great time The location is the McIntosh High School cafeteria on Walt Banks Road.  The “All-You-Can-Eat” menu includes fluffy pancakes, zesty sausage, cold orange juice, milk, coffee, and tea.

Serving hours are from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person (advance purchase from any Kiwanis member) or $5.50 at the door.  Take-out orders are available for folks on their way to work or just in a hurry.  Plenty of free parking is available.  Should ice or snow conditions cause the school to close, the event will be rescheduled for Feb. 5.

Several forms of family entertainment are planned.  Kids will enjoy free balloons and face-painting.  Clowns from New Hope Baptist Church will entertain young children with their balloon art and antics.

Also there for the kids will be the Kiwanis Club’s mascot, Flapjack the Raccoon.  And don’t miss the children’s pancake eating contest at 11 a.m. (no hands permitted) with a special award going to the winner. The Peachtree City Fire Department will have a fire truck on hand for kids to investigate.
Last year the club served thousands of pancakes to over ,500 hungry citizens.  More than half are repeat customers.  Pictures taken during this function can be viewed on the Club’s website at www.peachtreecitykiwanis.org.

The club’s goal in 2011 is to feed 3,000 customers.  The tremendous success enjoyed in 2010 resulted in the club giving back over $8,000 to the community from this event alone in support of charitable causes and service projects. One of those projects is fully funding the DARE drug education for 5th graders in Peachtree City elementary schools.  Pancake Saturday is planned and staffed by club members.

Assistance is provided by over 60 volunteers from the Key Clubs of McIntosh and Starr’s Mill High Schools and from members of the Builders Club from Rising Starr Middle School.
