Council Workshop – Tuesday, September 7
On Tuesday, September 7, 6:30 p.m., the Mayor & City Council will hold a joint workshop with the Planning Commission at City Hall to discuss proposed amendments to the Official Land Use Map and Zoning Map. This will ultimately lead to Council adopting new Land Use and Zoning Maps for the City. The public is welcome.
Holiday Ornaments Are In!
The new Peachtree City Holiday Ornaments are in and available for purchase at the Peachtree City Visitors Center (in the same building as the Amphitheater Box Office on McIntosh Trail) and City Hall. Cost is $15, and the brass ornaments depict a green and white golf cart overlayed by the Peachtree City logo.
September is National Preparedness Month – Are You Ready?
National Preparedness Month encourages Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and communities. This year’s campaign focuses on citizens working together to prepare for and respond to emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. Peachtree City has updated the restaurant listing on the City’s web site, improving the layout and contact information (including web site addresses), and linking directly to the Occupational Tax database to keep the list current. TRAFFIC ALERT – Path Closed in Glenloch/Shakerag Hill area this week
The Glenloch Village path that connects Stevens Entry and Bridlepath to Shakerag Hill will be closed Wednesday – Friday this week just north of Path # 1243 connecting to Woodland Drive in Robinson Woods Estates. The detour route is through Robinson Woods Estates, across Robinson Road, up to the Methodist Church, and then back across Robinson to path #1232 behind the Fairway Covenant Church. Donations & Volunteers
The City has set up a web page to help residents find ways they can help out the community, all in one place. In addition to volunteer opportunities, the site has two projects that are accepting monetary donations. The page address is www.peachtree-city.org/give . The two donations projects are:
* Glenloch Tennis Court Resurfacing Project – Due to the economy, the City was only able to allocate funds to crack-seal the courts as a temporary measure, with volunteers performing the actual work and the City purchasing the supplies. Donations will help fund a complete recoating of the courts (total cost: $12,000 for all four courts).
* History Time Line Project – The busts of Joel Cowan and Floy Farr have been completed, and the committee is now raising funds for the second phase of the project, a historic time line around the plaza fountain (total of $35,000, with $30,000 remaining to be raised).
Path Safety Reminder – Slow Down for Safety!
What is the top speed your car can achieve? How often do you actually reach that speed? Odds are good that it isn’t very often, if ever. Streets have posted speed limits based on a variety of factors, including the amount of traffic, visibility, number of turns, and the volume of pedestrian traffic. Golf cart drivers and bicyclists should keep these factors in mind when using Peachtree City’s paths, too. Just because your cart or bike can reach a certain speed does not mean it is appropriate or safe. Please slow down and use caution when approaching tunnels, curves, hills, intersections, bridges, and especially when passing other path users.

Project UPDATES
· MacDuff Parkway Tunnel Connection – Staff continues to work to obtain the necessary easements for this project.
· Rockaway Road Realignment – The new intersection is open, but the DOT continues to work on this intersection (final grading, lanes, and permanent signal heads with left turn arrows for traffic from Holly Grove and Rockaway). The DOT has not given an estimated completion date, but the entire widening project is scheduled for completion by December 2011. TRAFFIC ADVISORY: All Drivers – please continue to use extra caution in this area during construction. Parents & students going to Starr’s Mill/Rising Starr/Peeples may want to use Redwine Road until the intersection improvements have been completed.

Highway 74 South Detour TRAFFIC ADVISORY – Friday, September 10, – Sunday, September 12. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractor will close Highway 74 South completely between Rockaway Rd and Redwine Rd for drainage work on the September 10-12 weekend. They will close the road after the high school football game on Friday night, and will reopen Highway 74 no later than 5:00 a.m. on Monday, September 13. Due to the ongoing work at the Holly Grove / Rockaway / Highway 74 Intersection, the detour route has changed to Crosstown / Peachtree Parkway/Robinson/Redwine Roads. View REVISED detour map . . .
Patriot Day Observance & Freedom Walk – Saturday, September 11, 9:30 a.m. at Atlanta Regional Airport – Falcon Field. Peachtree City will remember the lives of nearly 3,000 people killed on September 11, 2001, with the “America Supports You Freedom Walk” at 9:30 a.m., followed at 10:00 a.m. with a formal program. The public is invited to participate in the walk, which is less than one mile and all on airport grounds. The 10:00 a.m. ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial and will feature honors to the flag, laying of a commemorative wreath, and guest speaker Bob McCubbins, president of the General Raymond Davis chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association. Honor Flight Fayette – Red, White, & Blue Challenge – Wednesday, September 15, 6:30 a.m. in Fayetteville. Help send off the 7th and final group of WWII Veterans to see their memorial in Washington DC. Line the route wearing red, white, and blue and waving American flags. Peachtree City and the Peachtree City Civic Association (PTCCA) will hold a neighborhood forum entitled, “Empower Your Neighborhood.” The seminar will include information on Homeowner Association issues (forming HOAs, collecting dues, renewing covenants, and addressing liability issues), as well as presentations from PTCCA and the City on ways to stay informed about and participate in community issues that affect your neighborhood.
