The varsity and junior varsity math teams at Starr’s Mill High proved to be tough competitors at the 12th annual Rockdale Mathematics Competition, both placing third in the small school division.
A total of 118 teams participated in the event that was held at the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology in Conyers.
Students competed in teams of four to solve problems in three different rounds. There was also an individual round where team members worked on their own to answer problems, and to determine an overall winner for each division and school.
Jay Yao was the overall winner for Starr’s Mill, and received a school winner medal.
Both the varsity and junior varsity teams received trophies for their third-place finishes. The winning team members are J.C. Talbott, Max Hodek, Yukimi Ueda, Colton Hazelton, Yuri-Grace Ohashi, Carter Rezac, Jocelyn Gao, and Kyle Robinson.
Additional team members who took part in the competition are Derek Camacho, Sean Nima, Elizabeth Marmo, Brady Meyer, and Dalton Walraven.
