Crabapple Lane Elementary followed the example set by Dolly Parton, raising more than 800 books for donation.
To help honor the legacy of Dolly Parton, especially her Imagination Library that has donated more than 300 million books, the school embarked on a book drive leading up to Dolly Day on Sept. 25. Led by the Pre-K Hatchlings class, the school was asked to give new and gently-used books for Children Read Atlanta. All together, more than 800 books were collected.
To celebrate the huge success, students and staff were encouraged to dress up on Dolly Day in their best rhinestones, cowboy hats, and “Dolly” items. Of course, they made sure to share some good books, too!
Principal Erik Falkenhagen thanked Ashley Fannin and Mary Beth Thompson for organizing the event and for all the participants who helped make it special.
“Dolly Day was a huge success!,” he said. “Their generosity will help put books into the hands of children and continue to build a love of reading in our school community.”
