The Newnan-Coweta Chamber will host a “State of Education” Lunch Wednesday, today from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Newnan Country Club, 1356 Highway 29 North in Newnan. Speakers will include Coweta County Schools Superintendent Dr. Steve Barker, University of West Georgia Provost Michael Crafton, Ph.D., and West Georgia Technical College President Steve Daniel. They will share our community’s progress and achievements in education during the past year and highlight future goals. The Chamber’s “State of Community” Lunch Series kicked off in March with a focus on local government and featured reports from city and county administrators.
The “State of Healthcare” Lunch is set for Oct. 5 and will feature CEOs from three local hospitals: Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital.
The “State of Education” Lunch June 29 is sponsored by Newnan CEO. Registration for the lunch is $35 for Chamber members and their guests and $50 for general admission.

The Yacht Rock Revue is scheduled to perform today, at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater.
Billed as “the greatest show on surf and the finest tribute to 70’s light rock to ever perform anywhere,” the group is known for “spot-on renditions of Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan the rest of the Time-Life Infomercial Catalog.” It goes without saying they have taken their act to the high seas, performing showcase sets on music cruises with Weezer, Kid Rock, Train, Zac Brown Band, Sister Hazel and fitness guru Jillian Michaels. “By blurring the lines between a tribute, an original act and a comedic troupe, the Yacht Rock Revue has forged a unique niche market and a special bond with their fans. The band attacks each song as if it were their own, and the energy exchanged between the band and the crowd has more in common with a stadium U2 show than that of a typical bar band,” according to a statement. Gates will open at 7 p.m. with opening act Gravity taking the stage at 8. Yacht Rock will begin at 9. Celebrate a treasured Peachtree City tradition which includes the ever-popular Independence Day Parade and a spectacular fireworks display. Parade starts on Peachtree Parkway, north of Braelinn Golf Club at 9 a.m. Fireworks at Drake Field start at dusk.
A Let Freedom Ring ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. today on the grounds of the Old Fayette County Courthouse.The short, yet meaningful ceremony, will honor the men who signed the Declaration of Independence. Each state’s name and the names of the men from that state who signed the document will be read and a bell will be rung in recognition of their brave act. The Marquis de Lafayette Chapter Sons of the American Revolution will provide a color guard that will post the colors and provide a musket salute. The ceremony lasts about 20 minutes. Bring lawn chairs for seating.

The community is invited to celebrate Independence Day in downtown Newnan during the 4th of July Parade scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park (Temple Avenue Park) and end at Greenville Street Park. Main Street Newnan welcomes all interested participants to meet at Veteran’s Memorial Park by 8:30 a.m. Registration is only necessary for participants that intend to use a motorized vehicle to pull a float, and participation is free. Touring artist Von Strantz is stopping in Senoia to play at the Senoia Coffee & Cafe. They are a female Indie rock duo from Indianapolis. The sound of Von Strantz is described simply as folk n’ roll, akin to the tradition of Over the Rhine and the sacredness of The Vespers; the instrumentals stir the soul much like Mumford and Sons.
Utilizing a variety of instruments such as the mandolin, violin, bass, and cello, Von Strantz unites harmonies strung together by commanding and soulful lyrics. With story-sharing as their passion, Von Strantz invites their audience into the emotion of each piece. Von Strantz is storytellers, an ebb and flow of two different musicians, exploring the dark and emerging with hope.
Von Strantz released their first self-titled EP in early 2013, and has also released “Narratives Chapter I: Troubled Souls” March of 2014 & “Narratives Chapter II: The Line” August of 2014. The band has traveled extensively, booking more than 400 shows since January 2014, including Electric Forest, Hard Rock Cafe, Schuba’s, Paper City Music Fest, Audiofeed, Starry Night 2013 & 2014 ,Steel Bridge Music Fest 2013 & 2014, and has shared the stage with some of their favorite artists, My Brightest Diamond, Over The Rhine, Howie Day & A Silent Film.
