The Fayette County Board of Commissioners recently issued a proclamation declaring May American Stroke Month. They asked all citizens to familiarize themselves with risk factors of stroke and to know the FAST warning signs and symptoms (face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty and time to call 9-1-1).

Stroke is the leading cause of disability in the United States and 80 percent of strokes are preventable if you take care of your health (eat right, exercise, control cholesterol and blood pressure, etc.).

Members of the Piedmont Fayette staff pictured with commissioners Charles Oddo, David Barlow, Randy Ognio and Charles Rousseau are Debbie Britt, executive director of community and public relations; Lisa Jackson, manager of the Stroke Program; Deborah Camp, manager of Piedmont Newnan’s stroke program; Cynthia Boatright, supervisor of Cardiovascular and Emergency Department accreditation; and Greg Woods, Executive director of patient services.
