Piedmont Newnan Hospital is kicking off another season of “Walk with a Doc” starting with a physician who can offer plenty of advice as allergy season begins.
All members of the Coweta County community are invited to join up with John Vickery IV, M.D. of the Center for Allergy & Asthma of Georgia on Saturday, March 28, at Carl Miller Park at 70 Sewell Road in Newnan.
Walkers are encouraged to gather at the park by 8:15 a.m. as the walk begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. Vickery will take five minutes to talk about asthma and allergies before leading participants on a walk through the park while he answers questions from participants.
Vickery treats children and adults for asthma, allergic disease and immunologic disorders. He is a member of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), American College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI), American College of Physicians (ACP), and American Medical Association (AMA).
Walkers will receive a pedometer to help them keep track of the number of steps taken, as well as a choice of a free T-shirt or water bottle. While the event is free, registration is required by calling 877-527-3712 or visiting piedmont.org/walkwithadoc. Registration will also be available on site starting at 8 a.m.
Piedmont launched Walk with a Doc after a health needs assessment showed that one in four adults in Coweta County is physically inactive and nearly one in three is considered obese.
The walks not only encourage physical fitness, but give participants one-on-one time with a physician. The walks will be held the fourth Saturday of each month through September.
