A “Perennial Plan” is today from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Gathering Place in Peachtree City Keeping color in your garden all year can be difficult and sometimes expensive. The Sandy Creek High School Choral Department will host the 2015 Miss Sandy Creek Scholarship Pageant today at 7 p.m. at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone.
Thirteen contestants will compete for more than $3,000 in scholarship money. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased in advance on Jan. 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the SCHS cafeteria, or at the door on the evening of the pageant.

Local author Sandy McDaniel will sign copies of her novel, “Lemonade Journal” at the Peachtree City Library today at 1 p.m.. David Bores, an expert on the Islamic threat in American, will be guest speaker at the Greater Fayette Republican Women’s Club meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Fayette Event Center in Fayetteville. Bores is a retired army officer, was a member of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for 16 years, and most recently served as chief of police in Woodstock from 2009-2011. The topic of Bores’ program will be “The Threat of Shar’ia Law to the Fundamental Rights of Women and Children in America.”

Today and tomorrow, Promise Place is hosting its annual improv comedy benefit, “Promise You’ll Laugh,” at The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone. A professional group from Whole World Improv Theatre in Atlanta will entertain the audience, with 100 percent of the proceeds directly benefitting Promise Place. Last year’s inaugural “Promise You’ll Laugh” event sold out in advance, and this year there will be two nights to catch a show. Both shows begin at 7:30 p.m., and doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.
