Fayette County Animal Shelter is waiving all dog adoption fees from August 21 through Labor Day as the shelter works to find homes for dogs and free kennel space for incoming animals.
The shelter is currently full, and officials are asking residents who have considered adopting a dog to visit now rather than wait.
Every adoption creates space for another animal that may arrive needing shelter and care.
All adoption fees will be waived during the promotion. Dogs available for adoption are up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and ready to go home with their new families.
Shelter officials say dogs of a wide range of sizes and personalities are currently waiting for homes.
“Please don’t wait and hope someone else will come,” the shelter said in its appeal. “These dogs need adopters, families, and people willing to look at one of them and say, ‘That’s my dog.’”
The longer dogs remain at the shelter, officials said, the more difficult it becomes to make room for additional animals that need help.
Free adoptions will be available August 21 through Labor Day at Fayette County Animal Shelter, 1131 Highway 74 South in Peachtree City.
The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Residents who cannot adopt are encouraged to share information about the promotion with friends and family.
“One visit, one conversation, or one share could be the connection that gets a dog out of the shelter and into a home,” the shelter said.
“We are full. They are waiting. And we truly need your help.”
