Cops investigate suicide, close busy Crosstown Rd.

UPDATED OCT. 2, 2014 — Police have determined that the man found dead Sept. 29 at Rockspray Pond Park in southern Peachtree City was the victim of a self-inflicted wound.

The subsequent investigation closed Crosstown Drive from Cameron Trail to South Peachtree Parkway to all traffic during a busy part of Monday afternoon, causing schoolbuses to be diverted.

The name of the man was not disclosed by police.

Here’s the department’s press release:

“On September 29th, 2014 at approximately 2:10 pm, while an officer was patrolling the area of Rockspray Park on Crosstown Road, Peachtree City, he noticed a person lying near the multi-use path.

“The officer discovered that the person had an apparent gunshot wound and was deceased.

“Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and conducted a crime scene investigation.

“Due to the location of the victim, Crosstown Road and the multi-use paths in the area were required to be closed for several hours as the investigation progressed.

“Peachtree City Criminal Investigators were able to confirm that the person died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”

The portion of Crosstown Drive in Peachtree City from Cameron Trail to South Peachtree Parkway was closed Monday afternoon due to the investigation of a death that occurred at Rockspray Pond Park.

Police spokesman Mark Brown said officers are investigating, adding that he expected that portion of Crosstown Drive to be closed for much of the remainder of the afternoon.

Brown reported at approximately 4:30 p.m. that the roadway had been re-opened.
