Southside Community Theatre at 20 West Campbellton St. in Fairburn opens a side-splitting comedy classic “The Nerd” this week.

Written by Larry Shue and directed by Chris Shellnutt, “The Nerd” is about an aspiring young architect, Willum, who has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam.

The action of “The Nerd” centers on the hilarious dilemma of this young architect who is visited by this hero — who outstays his welcome with a vengeance, leading to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placid Willum finds himself contemplating violence, a dire development which, happily, is staved off by the surprising “twist” ending of the play.

The hilarious play opens this week and runs the next three weekends.

The shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday begin at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.

You can get tickets by visiting stgplays.com, by calling the box office at 770-969-0956 or emailing the box office at [email protected].

Ticket prices are as follows: First weekend advance on-line is $14 or at the door for $15. The last two weekends advance on-line at $16 and at the door for $17.50. Children under 12 are $ 8 for all shows.
