Newnan celebrated America’s 249th birthday with a festive morning parade that brought together residents of all ages in a proud display of red, white, and blue.
The celebration began promptly at 9:00 a.m., with participants gathering at Veterans Memorial Park before marching down Temple Avenue and concluding at Greenville Street Park.
Crowds lined the sidewalks as families, veterans, and students led the way, waving flags with pride. They were followed by decorated classic cars, tractors, fire trucks, and floats wrapped in patriotic bunting.
“I come here every year,” said a woman carrying a small dog dressed in red and white. “The sense of community always brings me back — I’ve lived here my whole life.”
At 9:22 a.m., cheers erupted as a formation of planes soared over downtown in a perfectly timed flyover. Gasps, applause, and camera flashes filled the air, with many calling it their favorite moment of the morning.
By 9:30 a.m., the parade had wrapped up, leaving families free to head home or gather at local brunch spots. From children waving flags to seniors smiling from lawn chairs, the morning once again showed that Newnan knows how to celebrate its country and its community with spirit, style, and a whole lot of heart.
Community pride shone brightly throughout the day. Young entrepreneurs set up a lemonade stand along the route, donating part of their proceeds to the Coweta Pregnancy Center. Later in the afternoon, a food truck drew crowds with brisket sandwiches and funnel cakes — and surprised customers when they discovered the cooks were local kids. “They’re so good,” one delighted attendee said.
As the day came to a close, the sounds of laughter and music lingered through the streets, a reminder that Newnan’s Independence Day is more than just a parade — it’s a celebration of neighbors, traditions, and the hometown spirit that continues to bring everyone together year after year.
