Phyllis Webb Towell, 86, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away on Sun., Mar. 16, 2014.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph M. Towell, of Fayetteville, Ga., son, William Lee Webb, daughter-in-law, Ann Hepburn Webb and grandson, Andrew Hepburn Webb, all of Alexandria, Va.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Herman Webb and brother, Carl Holmes Fisher of Charlotte, N.C.

She was born in Kannapolis, N.C., attended Cannon High School and graduated from Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, N.C.

Phyllis was an elementary school teacher in N. C., Tenn. and Ga. for over 52 years and retired from the Fulton County Public School System in 2005.

She was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and was very active in the Fellowship-Discipleship Sunday School class.

Phyllis and her husband, Ralph (“Pete”) were active in church, various dinner groups and enjoyed traveling, particularly to visit friends in the north Ga. mountains.

Phyllis was known for always wearing a variety of hats and was many times referred to as the “Hat Lady” or as “Little Red” for her bright red hair. She had a particular love for sewing and her birds and other wildlife in the backyard.

A memorial service will be held Sun., April 6, 2014 at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Longtime friend of Phyllis, Ralph and son, William, the Reverend Bob Partridge and the Reverend Lowell Hale will officiate.
