A Fayetteville man was struck and fatally injured Saturday afternoon by a vehicle on Ga. Highway 85 South as he was walking along the highway and stepped out into the roadway. The driver is not being charged in the accident.

Sheriff Barry Babb said 53-year-old Wayne Alan Adams was walking southbound along Hwy. 85 South at approximately 1:30 p.m. just south of Porter Road.

As he was walking on the shoulder of the northbound side, he stepped into the northbound lane and was struck by a 1995 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old male driver, Babb said.

Babb said several witnesses stopped to provide an account of the incident.

Babb said no charges have been filed against the driver and none are anticipated.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the incident, Babb said.
