McIntosh High receives its fourth Georgia Schools of Excellence Award after being named one of 28 schools earning the honor for the 2012-2013 school year.
This marks the first time the Georgia Department of Education has used its College and Career-Ready Performance Index to select the winners rather than the old way that focused on state assessment scores.
“With our new, more rigorous accountability system, these schools really shine,” says State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge.
This is the fourth Georgia Schools of Excellence award for McIntosh within the last 25 years. The school received its first award in 1987. The second recognition was in 2001, and the third in 2008.
Georgia Schools of Excellence are chosen from each Congressional District based on two categories: highest performance and highest progress.
McIntosh won for highest progress in the third Congressional District, meaning the school made the greatest gains on the College and Career-Ready Performance Index than any other school in the Congressional District.
Principal Lisa Fine describes the award as “remarkable” and attributes it to the school’s hardworking students, teachers and parents.
“Remarkable things happen when students, teachers, and schools choose “To BE” (Be Excellent). I am privileged to work with outstanding educators who believe in “Embracing Excellence for All ~ Students First,” she said.
