If running and bling are your things, you might want to mark your calendar for Sept. 6, 2014.
That’s when the Divas Half Marathon and 5K Series is coming to Peachtree City, with an 8 a.m. start at Shakerag Knoll.
Participants will enjoy various entertainment stations along the route. Flowers, bubbly and shiny finisher medals are awarded to participants as they cross the finish line.
The Divas Half Marathon and 5K races have developed quite an allegiance of female runners who travel all over the country to participate in the events, and the city should expect nearly 4,000 visitors for the race over the entire weekend, organizers have said.
Judging by the company’s website, the Divas race will be a bit of a joyous spectacle, as some entrants dress up, many in teams, to enjoy the races.
Continental Event and Sports Management President and CEO Robert Pozo said he is very excited to bring the event to Peachtree City.
“This is an amazing new location for the Divas Half Marathon and 5K Series, incorporating a beautiful city in one of the most established running areas in the U.S.,” Pozo said. “The canopied roads and slightly rolling course lends itself to a great race venue.”
Pozo noted that the city council, the convention and visitors bureau, the Peachtree City Running Club and the Peachtree Fayette Sports Alliance have welcomed the event with open arms.
“Clearly we are a great match with the city that hosts ‘Drop Dead Diva’ and is welcoming to sports of all kinds,” Pozo said. “Pink boas and tiaras will fill the streets of Peachtree City come Sept. 6, 2014.”
Peachtree City CVB Executive Director Nancy Price said the group was excited to partner with Continental Event and Sport Management and the Divas event.
“Sports tourism is now one of our primary focuses and its amazing to come out of the gate with an event like this that will have a tremendous economic impact to Peachtree City,” Price said. “We fully expect to fill our hotels and keep the cash registers ringing at our local restaurants and retail establishments all weekend long.”
CVB is also planning to host a special “Diva” concert at The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater for race participants and the public as well, Price said.
Other race weekend festivities include a health and fitness boutique, live post-race party and various other activities. Registration is available online at www.runlikeadiva.com.
