An Oxford man is charged with murdering a Fayetteville woman after forcing his way into her parents’ home and stabbing her multiple times early Friday evening, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

Jessica Tolbert, 29, was pronounced dead at Piedmont Fayette Hospital shortly after the incident, Babb said. Her alleged attacker, Terry Bernard Davis, 45, was arrested Saturday morning at 3:45 a.m. in Atlanta with the help of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Babb said.

Davis and Tolbert previously lived together but since had separated as Tolbert currently was living with her parents, Babb said.

The attack was reported around 6:45 Friday evening at the Tolbert residence at 325 Elderberry Trace, just off Ga. Highway 92 north of White Road, Babb said. Davis fled the scene before deputies could arrive and Fayette County emergency medical personnel treated Tolbert, rushing her to Piedmont Fayette Hospital.

The murder weapon was recovered on the scene along with other physical evidence, Babb said.

Babb credited both his detectives and crime scene personnel for managing to get Davis in custody so quickly. He added that items from the scene were still being processed as well.

“They did a phenomenal job to get this guy in custody so fast,” Babb said, crediting the teamwork atmosphere that the sheriff’s office thrives on particularly in serious cases like these.

In addition to physical evidence found at the crime scene, deputies also got help from eyewitnesses in the neighborhood, Babb said.
