Stephen A. Martin, Sr., CPA, MBA passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
Beloved husband of Brigid C. Martin for the past 43 years. Loving father of Stephen A. Martin, Jr. (Monique), Nicole M. Franks (Kevin), and Dana C. Martin and grandfather to Taylor Claire, John, Michelle, and Payton. Younger brother of Helen M. Morrison (Robert), Alvin J. Martin, Sr. (Ethel), and Carole M. Walker (John). Son of the late Mary Batiste and Wilbert J. Martin. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
He served his country in the United States Army and retired as the Chief Financial Officer for Tuskegee University in 2012. Aged 66 years, a native of Marrero, La. and a resident of Peachtree City, Ga. Stephen attended St. Augustine High School (Recipient of the Purple Knight Award), class of 1964. He earned his B.A. in Latin as a Rockefeller Scholar and M.B.A. as an Arthur Young Scholar from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. Among his many achievements and distinctions, he was the first African-American to play any varsity sport for the Southeastern Conference while on academic scholarship.
The family will receive friends prior to the mass at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 101 Walt Banks Road, Peachtree City, Ga., followed by a memorial mass at 10 a.m. The burial for Sgt. Martin will follow, with honors, at 1 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga.
