A Tyrone middle school student reported that five older students robbed him Feb. 11 as he was walking home from school. Local law enforcement is treating the incident as an armed robbery.
Fayette County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Josh Shelton said the middle school student after the incident told his mother he had been walking home from the school complex on Jenkins Road when five white males believe d to be high school students came out of a wooded area, approached him from behind then pushed him to the ground.
The boy said the five older teens robbed him of the $5 he had in his possession. The only other description the boy provided dealt with the clothing the assailants were wearing. All were dressed in white t-shirts and blue jeans, Shelton said.
The middle school student noted that he saw a gun and a knife in the older teens’ pocket though the weapons were not produced during the robbery, Shelton said.
The student reported that the older teens ran back into the wooded area, adding that he did see one of them a short time later near the entrance to the Gaelic Glen subdivision just to the east of the school. The boy said the older male entered a dark colored Jeep.
