A July 14 break-in at the Sprint store in the Uptown Square shopping center across from the Fayette Pavilion in Fayetteville was one that displayed a method seen in previous burglaries of other area cell phone stores. It is one where thieves break through the wall of an adjacent storefront that is vacant in order to access the store and make off with the goods.
Fayetteville Police spokesman Steve Crawshaw said the store manager Saturday morning was notified by the alarm company of a communication failure at the store. Upon arriving at the store the manager found that the alarm keypad was not working. He entered the store and found a stock room door open and debris on the floor of the manager’s office, Crawshaw said.
Police were called and, upon their arrival, a walk-through showed that a hole had been punched through the manager’s office door. A further search of the business revealed that large hole had been punched through the wall to the adjacent storefront, one that is currently unoccupied, Crawshaw said.
Crawshaw said the number of items stolen from the business is currently unknown.
In an earlier burglary, the Subway store on North Glynn Street in Fayetteville was the target of a weekend burglary that resulted in the cash register being emptied but with no signs of forced entry into the building.
Crawshaw said the burglary occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on July 7 and 11 a.m. the next day. The door was locked when the night shift employee left and was locked when the morning shift employee arrived, Crawshaw said, adding that there were no signs of forced entry and no alarm call.
The morning shift employee did not know that anything had occurred until observing the cash register open and its contents removed, Crawshaw said. The employee said nothing else in the store was out of the ordinary, said Crawshaw.
