Conservative Republican candidate for lieutenant governor Blake Tillery campaigned for votes at the Fayette County Republican Party meeting Saturday, vowing that if elected he would end the state income tax.

“Georgia families are working harder than ever but finding their dollar doesn’t go as far as they need it to when it comes to home ownership, child care, groceries and energy costs,” said Tillery. “I want to give every Georgian who earns a paycheck a 5 percent raise by eliminating the income tax. As Appropriations Committee chair, I have guarded your tax dollars to keep spending as low as possible so that we can leave more money in the pockets of those who earned it.”

Tillery’s Fayette County chair for the campaign, David Ballard, introduced the candidate by vouching for his conservative credentials.

“I’ve known Blake Tillery my entire adult life, and his conservative principles aren’t something new — he’s lived them every day,” Ballard said. “Blake has a good heart, genuinely cares about people, and works hard to make a difference. As a state senator and Appropriations chairman, he’s delivered tax relief and balanced budgets. He’s not just conservative — he’s effective. Georgia needs that kind of principled, proven leadership in our next lieutenant governor.”

In Fayette, Tillery proudly heralded the endorsement of Sheriff Barry Babb.

Tillery practices law in Vidalia, where he lives with his wife Ashlee Nicole, an OBGYN, and their two sons. The Tillerys are foster parents as well.
