A small fire in a boys’ restroom at Starr’s Mill High School on October 10 triggered the building’s fire alarm and sprinkler system, prompting an evacuation of students. No injuries were reported.

According to a letter sent to families from Starr’s Mill High Principal Jamie Voorhies and Rising Starr Middle Principal Mark Henderson, the Peachtree City Fire Department responded quickly and extinguished the fire. The incident caused flooding in the 600 hall of the high school, and students will be allowed to retrieve their belongings once cleanup is complete.

School officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Early findings suggest that someone may have set fire to toilet paper or paper towels in one of the restroom stalls.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Starr’s Mill administration.
