Alonzo is a unique mix of Chow, Akita, Staffordshire Terrier, and several other breeds that give him a distinct look and a calm, thoughtful nature. At about 50 pounds, he’s a medium-sized dog with soft tan fur, subtle speckles, and piercing eyes that seem to tell his story. He’s young, just over 2 years old, but has the demeanor of an old soul.
When Alonzo first arrived at the shelter, he was terrified and withdrawn. With time, kindness, and patience, he’s slowly learning to trust. He was briefly adopted by a loving family, but with several busy kids, the activity was just too overwhelming for his sensitive temperament. Alonzo will do best in a quieter home where he can feel safe and secure, ideally with another calm dog to help him continue building confidence.
Despite his timid nature, Alonzo is both dog and people friendly. His stance is sometimes fearful, but he has never shown aggression. He has a big heart that wants to connect, but needs time, consistency, and reassurance. For someone patient and gentle, Alonzo will be a loyal and loving companion. He just needs the right person and the right environment to allow him to open up.
Alonzo is available for adoption at Fayette County Animal Shelter, located at 1131 Highway 74 South in Peachtree City. The shelter is open seven days a week—Monday through Friday from 11–5, and weekends from 12–5. Come meet Alonzo and discover the quiet beauty of this special boy.
