Peachtree City, GA – MOBA Soccer Academy has announced that it will transition to a rental-only sports facility effective May 31, 2025, marking the conclusion of its Academy and Youth Select Team programs.
The move reflects a strategic shift toward serving the broader community by making MOBA’s professional-grade stadium and fields available for rental to local leagues, sports organizations, and event coordinators. While Academy operations will end, MOBA’s popular summer camps will continue as scheduled throughout June and July.
According to MOBA Corporation Marketing and Communications Manager Christopher Sommer, “Our owners just decided that given the really immense growth of the sport here in this part of the metro area, just as a strategic business point, that we really could best serve the community by opening up our clubs as just a strictly rental only facility because there was just clearly a huge need for other clubs to be able to have access to the types of fields that we have. We have two FIFA regulation, synthetic turf fields. They’re the only types of fields that we have in this location. So being able to switch off to rental only was just strategically knowing that there’s so many new clubs and programs coming into the area. To open this up to everybody was the best move for us as we continue to support the growth of the sport and the community.”
“Since launching in 2017, our focus has always been on player development, community engagement, and growing the sport,” said MOBA Facilities Manager Nick Fevella. “We’re proud of everything we’ve built together—and excited to expand access to our world-class facilities in a new way.”
Several years ago, MOBA stopped fielding their professional team. Currently US Soccer Corporation does rent some of MOBA’s facilities, especially during inclement weather, and also for coaches training and other purposes, but MOBA says that US Soccer was not their reason for shutting down the youth and children’s programming. They also say that the decision was not based on profit, as they had their highest participation this last year in terms of students on teams.
“We had probably our largest year last year as far as how many players we had on our teams. From our owner’s perspective and looking at as a strategic move in business case, it was time for them to make this decision. This was the best path forward for us to really enable further growth for us and also for the rest of the community here for the soccer players that needed a world-class facility to practice and play on,” said Sommer.
“All of our players who are currently in our season will beginning to finish their seasons. The coaches will finish coaching those teams. So no one was laid off or fired. It was just simply a non-renewal of their contracts,” said Sommer. He explained that most of MOBA’s coaching staff are part-time contract workers. There are several executive directors of the program who were full-time on contract who will also no longer be working for the program after May.
Soccer is not MOBA Corporation’s core business. According to Sommer, MOBA Corporation has had its headquarters in Peachtree City for the last 27 years, although it was founded in Germany. The President and CEO resides locally. They are an international organization with subsidiaries around the world.
“Peachtree City is the only location that has a soccer program,” shared Sommer. “This was honestly a passion project for our owners who love the game of soccer and wanted to bring here to the community. So they built something really remarkable here. They were proud to bring that here and to grow a really robust facility.”
MOBA’s core business is to “manufacture and develop technology for construction machinery to be automated. So everything from asphalt to excavators to trash trucks, cranes and lifters. We make those components and systems that get installed in there. And some of the world’s largest OEM manufacturers, so we’re not as well known here, unfortunately, outside of soccer. But that’s the corporate side of things for us here; we’re best known for our paving technology. We have the best-selling paving automation technology in the world,” said Sommer.
According to their news release, MOBA Soccer Academy has helped develop thousands of young athletes, producing championship teams, collegiate players, and even professionals. As it shifts from team-based programming to facility rental, MOBA remains committed to supporting the growth of soccer in the community and making our facility a top destination for major sporting events.
“We are constantly being contacted for people to rent our facilities. So we’re very happy to be able to open our facilities up to let them practice here and see more and more activity here in our fields as they’re usually pretty busy. I think most people will drive by and they’ll see there’s always something going on here in the fields and there’s going to be a lot more,” said Sommer.
He continued, “We’ve been selected to host some really major, high profile events here. Everything from the Georgia soccer state tournaments, major lacrosse events are also held in our fields, but also the small scale, the high school practices, things like that, that will be available and now to a much broader capacity. So we’re excited to have more people here and continue to see the growth of the sport here in our community.”
