How To Know When You’re Doing The Right Thing

When we’re young, we’re taught the difference between right and wrong. Not always with big, dramatic lessons, but through bedtime stories or classroom rules. We’ll experience gentle corrections from the adults in our lives. “Say thank you.” “Tell the truth.” Right is rewarded. Wrong is corrected. But as we get older, the choices get harder and the lines sort of blur.

We start navigating decisions that don’t come with a guidebook, like where to live. Who to live with. When to take the leap or when to stay put. What kind of work to pursue. Whether to follow your gut or play it safe.

The stakes feel higher because there isn’t a clear right or wrong or an adult steering us in a certain direction. It’s just a series of possibilities with different outcomes. What’s right for someone else may be even completely wrong for you. What looks good on paper might not feel good in your bones. So, how do I know when I’m doing the right thing?

Alignment. There’s a feeling I get when something is right for me. Not perfect, not easy, but aligned. A deep breath. A quiet calm. Even if the road ahead is foggy, there’s something in me that says this feels honest.

And if I’m tangled up in options or lost in all the “what ifs,” I’ve learned I can’t always see clearly on my own. That’s when I turn to the people I trust most. My wife. My colleagues. My mentors. My friends. They are the ones who help me sort through the noise and the emotion.

They help me focus on what’s real, what’s important, and what aligns with my values. They don’t always tell me what to do, definitely not, but they hold space for me to find clarity, and that’s when I know I’m on the right track. Not because I have all the answers, but because I’m surrounded by people who help me ask the right questions.

Not because I’ve eliminated risk, but because I feel supported no matter the outcome. That desire for clarity and support is exactly why I created The Nexus, a coworking and collaborative space where individual members can join a collective community.

It’s a space for creatives, thinkers, and doers to gather, not just to work, but to connect. It’s a community where you don’t have to pretend you have it all figured out. Where your ideas, questions, and challenges are welcome!

At The Nexus, we believe the best decisions are made when you’re surrounded by people who challenge you, inspire you, and walk beside you. We’re not here to tell you what’s “right.” We’re here to offer space, conversation, and collaboration so you can find the answers that feel true for you.

Because when you surround yourself with people who care (not just about what you do, but about who you are) the courage to move forward finds you! If you’re at a crossroads or just seeking something more free…
