David Joe (DJ) Hurlbut of Newnan, GA went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 5, 2024 at the age of 90. DJ was born on March 14, 1934 in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Henry George and Constance Clark Hurlbut.

He was a graduate of Addison Central High School. After graduating in 1952, DJ attended college in White Plains, New York. Following his studies in college he enlisted in the United States Army on December 10, 1956, serving 2 years in Carlsbad, Germany. He remained on active duty as a sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1962.

During this time, DJ met his wife, Jacqueline, in New York City where they were both employed by American Airlines. They were later married at Christ Church, Lynbrook on Long Island on December 2, 1960.

DJ’s early career was spent in the food service industry and grew from that point to include corporate positions with General Foods, William B. Reilly Foods and Flowers Industries. Because of the influence of his career, he developed a passion for preparing culinary meals and selecting fine wines for large gatherings with his family which were enjoyed by all.

DJ (affectionately known as “PaPa”) is survived by his devoted wife, Jacqueline F. Hurlbut; his adored children, Danielle (Thomas) Humber, Kirsten (Rodney) Walker; a dear sister, Virginia Romans; precious grandchildren Christian (Claire) Humber, Chase (fiance Jordan) Humber, Savannah (Landon) Comeans and Lily Walker; treasured great-grandchildren Harper Comeans, Collins Humber, Graham Comeans and Cash Humber and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, DJ was preceded in his passing by his beloved son, David Joe (DJ) Hurlbut II; siblings Donald C. Hurlbut, Hugh G. Hurlbut, Martha A. Wilder, Susan B. Jones and Frederick P. Hurlbut. In keeping with DJ’s wishes, services will be held privately for family. Parrott Funeral Home & Crematory, Fairburn.
