Hugh Stevenson Bishop passed away on March 11, 2024.
Born in Cumberland, Maryland, in 1943, Hugh graduated from Allegany High School and went on to study at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, and was a member of the Corps of Cadets.
After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, he started his 40-year career with PPG Industries working in Cumberland, Maryland; Dover, Delaware; and East Point, Georgia.
Scouting was an important part of his life. Beginning at an early age he was involved in all levels of scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, which shaped his lifelong values.
Hugh was always a gentleman and treated everyone with respect and kindness. He enjoyed all aspects of woodworking and creating beautiful, useful pieces that he shared with others. Hugh’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Bishop, mother Janet Heacox, and stepfather, Richard Heacox.
Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Susan; cousins Susan Jones, Janet McCoole, Steve Huffman, Susan Tanner and Edward Bishop; sister-in-law Lynda (Scott) Radow; brothers-in-law Eugene (Sue) McGill, Thomas (Cindy) McGill, Jon (Patty) McGill, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Hugh’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269. The service will be available on the Mowell’s website.
In lieu of flowers the family lovingly requests donations be made in Hugh’s name to a charity of your choice.
