Robert Burton Bortles, fondly known as Bob, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023, at the age of 90.
Born on January 8, 1933, in Lacona, New York, he brought warmth, love, and inspiration to all who knew him. Remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication marked Bob’s life.
He served as the Director of IT for the County of Oswego and made significant contributions during his time in politics. Bob approached every task with diligence, commitment, and an unwavering belief in making a difference.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob’s true passion and joy came from spending quality time with his family. As a loving and devoted husband to his wife, JoAnne, he built a strong foundation of love and support throughout their 68+ years together.
As a father to sons Randy, Rick, and Rob, Bob was a guiding light, offering wisdom, tough love, and encouragement at every turn. Bob had a zest for life that extended beyond his career and family. He found solace and enjoyment in his love of golf and all sports.
He was an active member of his community, always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Bob’s warm smile and genuine kindness touched the lives of many. He will be dearly missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Naomi Bortles, as well as his sisters, Donna Alger. Bob leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnne, his sister Rea Rubley, his sons Randy (Laura), Rick, and Rob (Suzy), and his grandchildren Brooke, Alexa, Elle, Blake, and Colby. His presence and guidance have forever enriched their lives.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held privately, honoring his memory and the impact he had on his loved ones. While no services are scheduled at this time, his family and friends will continue to remember him with love and gratitude. Bob’s remarkable journey through life serves as an inspiration to us all. His kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community will forever be remembered. May his soul rest in eternal peace, knowing his profound impact on those around him.
