He later attended Gonzaga College High School, Washington, D.C., graduating in 1954 and attended college at St Francis University in Loretta, PA, before enlisting in the Marine Corps. Served in the Marine Corps from April 1956- April 1962. During the Marine Corps, Dan spent time in: Parris Island, SC; Kaneohe Bay, HI; San Diego, CA; Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA; and Camp Lejeune, NC. Dan reached the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and received multiple commendations, including several Good Conduct awards before being honorably discharged to civilian life.

Joan and Dan met through a group of mutual friends and were married October 13, 1962, at St. Jerome’s church in Hyattsville, MD, where they lived as newlyweds. They were married just shy of 58 years before Joan passed August of 2020.

After Joan and Dan married, they began their family with their son, Sean, and daughter, Colleen, in New Carrolton, MD. Dan and the family moved due to work relocations to Marlboro, NJ, then to Dunwoody, GA. As empty nesters, Dan and Joan moved to Alpharetta, GA and later retired to Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, SC. In 2017, to be closer to family, they moved to Peachtree City, GA. After Joan passed, Dan moved into an apartment he had built onto his daughter’s home in Fayetteville, GA, where he lived the past 2 years and 4 months.

Dan worked in sales for many years, winning numerous salesmanship awards throughout his career, and working his way to National Sales Manager roles. He eventually left the sales profession to run his own company, from which he ultimately retired.

Dan was a devout Catholic who attended the Franciscan Monastery in Washington, D.C., as a child; St. Mary’s Church in MD; St Gabriel’s Church in NJ, All Saints and St Thomas Aquinas in GA, St. Gregory the Great in SC and finally, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. When planning vacations, Dan always made sure he knew when and where the family would go to church on Sunday.

Of Irish decent, Dan was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and when he was a parishioner of St Gregory the Great, he was President of their men’s AOH chapter. He was also active in the Sun City Veterans Club where he served on several event committees. Dan was a member of Somerby of Peachtree City’s Resident Council and was head of the Dining Committee for some time. He served in many volunteer roles, serving church and community, over his years.

Dan was a prolific golfer from his youth through most of his retirement. He loved games and belonged to many social card groups with his wife and friends. Dan enjoyed going to sporting events and loved to watch sports on TV; his most beloved teams: Notre Dame, Washington (all the teams), Atlanta (all the teams), University of South Carolina and he always liked to root for all the Catholic schools in all college sports. It was a lively and spirited event watching sports with Dan. Dan loved to work jigsaw puzzles and continued this hobby up until his last few months, often supervising others while they worked on the puzzles.

Dan had a huge heart for animals, especially dogs. He kept pictures of all of his dogs close by. He loved them like family. In the past 2 years, the Kavney family’s beloved dog, Faye, became every bit of an emotional support for Dan and him to her. They served each other well.

Dan is survived by his son, Sean Robert Price (Kathleen) of Neptune, NJ, and daughter Colleen Frances Kavney (Michael) of Fayetteville, GA. Grandchildren: John (Jack) Daniel Price, Caroline Roarty Price, Erin Lucia Price, Katherine Cecelia Kavney, and Michael Daniel Kavney. Sister-in-law Barbara Ann Smith (Richard) of Bluffton, SC; Sister-in-law Marcia S Willhide of Dunkirk, MD and many nieces and nephews.

Proceeded in death by his spouse, Joan Carol Willhide, his Parents, Francis Kingsley Price and Cecelia Elizabeth Brosnan; Brother, Francis K. Price (Sue), Sister, Cecelia B. Hazard (Bobby); and Brother-in-law, Robert C. Willhide.

Dan will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a beloved grandfather (Pop), a faithful Catholic, the epitome of a salesman, a proud Marine, an easy leader, the life of the party, and a loveable, kind and generous soul.
