Serenah Hughes Tyson, 91, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away at her home surrounded by family Friday, July 7, 2023.
She was born in Sumter, South Carolina on Thursday, November 12, 1931, to James Alonzo and Clara Wynn Hughes.
Serenah was a devoted Christian and loved to garden. She was a long-time member of Brooks Woman’s Club, The Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She loved spending time with her family and being outdoors.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Alton Bruce Tyson; her brothers, James Hughes, John Lee Hughes; and her brother, Wendell Westbrook. Serenah is survived by her daughters, Andrea (Randy) Neal, Claire (Don) Culbreth, and Michelle (Todd) Speer; son, Nathan (Beth) Tyson; grandchildren, Rebecca McLean, Valerie Lenderman, Kyle Culbreth, Jesse Neal, Rachel Neal, Melissa Osborne, Jessica Sowell, Taylor Tyson, Stephanie Speer, and Renah Tyson; 14 greatgrandchildren; her sister, Martha Walters; and sisters-in-love, Peggy Westbrook and Martha Hughes.
A funeral service will be held Monday, July 10, 2023, at Brooks United Methodist Church with Reverends Lesley Langford and Debby Stikes officiating at 2:00 PM. A visitation will occur prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church. Serenah will be laid to rest at Brooks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to your local animal rescue organization.
