Jerry Stephens Burns, eighty-three, died on June 8, 2023, at home in Peachtree City, GA. He was born on July 25, 1939, in East Point, Fulton County, GA to the late Beryl and Rachel (Kinnison) Burns.
Jerry graduated from Russell High School in 1957 and began working at Delta Air Lines that same year, retiring thirty-five years later. Jerry was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and colleague.
He was an avid gardener, church member, recycler, volunteer, music enthusiast, and global traveler. Following his retirement from Delta Air Lines, he opened Fairfield Travel and assisted hundreds of clients, who became friends, in planning trips around the world.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Carol Lynn Stith Burns (Lynn); his daughters, Lisa Burns (Randy Ball) and Leigh Burns (Mark Whittmyer); son, Andy Burns (Megan); and his sister Edna Mae Pirkle. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sage Burns, Nate Burns, Ethan Ball and Maggie Burns; step-grandchildren, Jordan Hogland and Austin Whittmyer; his niece, Brenda Dudley (Dan); nephews, Michael Pirkle (Jodi), Danny Pirkle (Lori), and Hal Tarleton (Tanya), and their families.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Saint Andrew’s in the Pines Episcopal Church in Peachtree City, Georgia. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be shared with Saint Andrew’s in the Pines Episcopal Church and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
