Free lunch options for summer break

While the Fayette School Nutrition Program will not be able to offer free lunches this summer, there are options over the break.

The USDA Meals for Kids program helps locate resources for families who rely on free or reduced-price meals at school. Families can use the tool to find directions to nearby sites, as well as hours of operation and contact information. To use their Meals for Kids site finder, go to www.fns.usda.gov/meals4kids.

Also, the USDA National Hunger Hotline remains a helpful resource for people seeking food assistance. The hotline, operated by Hunger Free America, can be reached Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET. at 1-866-3-HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479) or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (1-877-842-6273) (for Spanish).

Another option is FoodFinder, a map of food pantries nationwide. By going to their website (foodfinder.us) you can search for free food assistance programs near you.
