Fayette vaccinations slow to 18 in 2 days as 2 more die

Fayette death toll now 126 — 

On Sunday Fayette County reported 7,172 Covid-19 vaccinations adminstered locally. Two weekdays later, that total has risen to 7,190 — an increase of 18.

Of that 18 new shots, 10 were first doses and 8 were second doses of the 2-dose regimen, according to the report from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Even as the rate of new Covid-19 cases declines across Georgia and Fayette County, the daily death toll rises.

Fayette’s latest victims are an African-American woman, age 84, with no underlying medical conditions, and a 72-year-old white male with an underlying condition. Their deaths were reported Feb. 23, bringing the Fayette toll to 126 since last March.

New confirmed infections rose in Fayette by 40 cases since Sunday, Feb. 21, to bring the local total to 5,881. The new case rate is at 9.4%, compared to  the statewide rate of 8.5%.

The state added 3,604 new cases on Monday and Tuesday for a total of 808,416. During the 2-day period, the state recorded 128 new fatalities for a pandemic total of 14,761, a death rate of 1.83%, acording to DPH data.
