Elsa Lee Baker, 74, passed away on January 10, 2021. She was born on January 6, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Charles Floyd and Helen Virginia (Waldrop) Graham, Jr. Her father was in the US Navy, so she moved many times until her parents finally settled in East Point, Georgia.
Preceded in death by her parents, Elsa is survived by her husband of 55 years, James “Jim” Baker; daughters, Jennifer (Jason) Burns of Newnan, and Amy (Richard) Frierson of Athens; grandchildren, Nathan (Emily) Burns, Stephens Burns, Addie Lee, Kathryn Anne, and Charlie Frierson. Elsa was also a loving grandmother for many years to children in foster care.
Elsa graduated from Russell High School in 1965 where she met James Baker, and they married that same year. She retired from Chick-fil-A, Inc. where she worked as an administrative assistant for 22 years. Elsa was a member at Harps Crossing Baptist Church for over 30 years. She served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher for teen girls and was also a member of Community Bible Study where she served as a core leader. Elsa enjoyed sewing and quilting and was an avid reader. She highly valued time spent with her family, but the most important aspect of her life was her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ.
The family will receive family and friends Thursday, January 14, 2021, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Harps Crossing Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM at HCBC. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in College Park. In lieu of flowers, the family lovingly requests that donations be made to David Akin Ministries (https://www.akinsministry.com) or Community Bible Study (https://www.communitybiblestudy.org).
