Fayette FACTOR (Fayette Alliance Connecting Together Our Resources), Inc. received a grant award of $28,000 through United Way of Greater Atlanta and Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta for Covid-19 response focused on education, food insecurity, housing and mental health.
“One of the things I cherish most about living in my beloved Fayette County, is that when our fellow residents are struggling, that we as a community always step up to fill in the gaps to support children and families in need,” said Dawn Oparah, Executive Director for Fayette FACTOR.
“Covid has impacted families in ways that have been devastating to some, through loss of employment, reduced salaries and lost businesses. So many of our families, before Covid, were doing fine economically and never expected to be in the situation where they were in jeopardy of losing their homes and can’t pay their basic bills. We really want to match and leverage the funds we have received from the United Way to help as many families as possible to have a sustainable way of staying in their homes. Our prayer is that those who have been blessed to have, would be a blessing to others by giving. I am especially grateful and confident that we continue to live in a community with a heart to support our neighbors who need our help. Thank you in advance for being a bridge over troubled waters.”
This grant — announced Dec. 18 — will primarily serve those who have been impacted by Covid through job loss, job reduction and have exhausted savings, therefore having a hard time making ends meet. It will help families with housing stabilization services through FACTOR’s program, “Operation Help our Children and Families Stay in their Homes,” by allocating funds to assist with rent/mortgages, and utilities.
The goal is to help families avoid evictions, utility cut-offs, and homelessness. FACTOR will assist families with housing insecurities through a partnership with Fayette County Public Schools.
Families need to contact their School Social Workers. Identified families will be pre-screened through a comprehensive application process. FACTOR will also be working in collaboration with Real Life Center and Fayette Samaritans. The grant program will be administered through FACTOR and all payments of help will be paid directly to landlords and utility companies.
To complement this grant from the United Way, FACTOR is seeking matching funding from our community via donations from individuals, businesses, as well as faith and civic organizations to support this program.
