The Nov. 3 election is getting closer, and with it are the municipal elections in Brooks and Tyrone. Though the General Election absentee ballot and municipal absentee ballot for the Special Election for the Tyrone Town Council Post 3 seat should be received separately in the mail, those not receiving the municipal ballot can check its status on a new state website or request one from the county.

All active voters in Fayette County received an absentee ballot application during the early summer.

The untimely death of Tyrone Post 3 Councilman Ken Matthews after the applications were mailed led to the need for an election fill his vacant seat.

Elections Supervisor Floyd Jones said when his office receives absentee ballot applications, and sees that the applicant lives in the Tyrone town limits, the applicant is mailed a general election ballot and a separate municipal ballot.

Jones said Tyrone has 6,079 active registered voters. Of those, 966 had absentee ballots requested and mailed as of Sept. 28.

In Brooks, the general election and municipal election will be on the same ballot.

For additional questions pertaining to the status of your absentee ballot, visit www.georgia.ballottrax.net or contact the Fayette County Elections Office by phone at 770-305-5408 or in person 140 Stonewall Avenue, Suite 100 in Fayetteville.

For those who need an absentee ballot application, visit the My Voter page at the Secretary of State’s website, https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do, and print off the application to be sent or delivered to the Fayette County election’s office.

The last day to send in an absentee ballot is Oct. 30.

For those voting in-person on Nov. 3 and to clear up any confusion, voters who choose to vote in-person on election day will need to vote at their regularly assigned polling place for the General Election.

If your polling place is not the Tyrone Library and you are a Tyrone citizen, you will need to visit both locations (your polling place and the Tyrone Library) on election day as the Special Election to fill Tyrone Post 3 can only be held at the Tyrone Library if voting in-person on Nov 3.
