Everybody’s favorite cartoon characters are coming to life in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, running June 5th-28th at The Legacy Theatre! This family-friendly musical will be performed outside on Legacy’s “lawn” where audience members can enjoy professional, live entertainment while maintaining a safe distance from others. The Legacy is also implementing many new safety standards to make this production safe and enjoyable for everyone.

This award-winning musical originally opened on Broadway in 1967 and has been delighting audiences ever since. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown follows the classic Peanuts characters created by Charles Schulz as they explore life’s great questions as they play baseball, struggle with homework, sing songs, swoon over their crushes, and celebrate the joy of friendship. The show is simple and sweet, consisting of lovable, memorable songs, and lasting messages of hope.

Mark Smith will direct You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, which is replacing Legacy’s originally schedule production of The Wizard of Oz. “We were very excited to produce The Wizard of Oz this summer,” says Smith, “but health and safety are our top priority. Currently, we didn’t feel that we could safely produce a show of that magnitude, with casts of dozens of children on stage. We did realize that instead of canceling our summer altogether, that we could still do something really special. We’ve built a brand new stage outside of our theatre, where we can space out our audience, and found this wonderful, uplifting show that we could safely produce in our new outdoor space.”

“Mark and I met doing outdoor theatre,” says Executive Producer Bethany Smith. “So, although we never set out to produce outdoor theatre here in Tyrone, these last few months of pause and reflection reminded us this is the perfect opportunity to return to those roots. We have a chance to create something really new and special. I think this is also a great new way for our community to start coming back together, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown is a perfectly suited show for everyone to enjoy.”

The cast is full of some of Atlanta’s most talented performers. The role of Charlie Brown will be played by Justin Thompson, Sally Brown by Jessica Chunta, Lucy will be played by Kristina Bryan, Linus by Brady Dunn, Patrick Coleman will play the role of Schroeder and Nathan Lubeck will perform Snoopy. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown is music directed by Chris Brent Davis, features set design by Dave Dorrell, choreography by Bethany Smith, and costume design by Deb Swann.

Legacy on the Lawn will continue in July with Smoke on the Mountain. This Southern Gospel favorite is being added to replace Legacy’ s April production of Almost, Heaven, which was also canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Legacy intends to open its 15th season as schedule this fall with Grits, the Musical a celebration of Girls Raised in the South. Season subscriptions are on sale now and individual ticket sales for the 15th season will go on sale this fall.
