Members of VFW Post 3650 at the Feb. 20 meeting of the Fayetteville City Council recognized Captain Sean Venza of the Fayetteville Fire Department on his selection to receive this year’s VFW Public Servant Award.

Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects law enforcement and firefighter personnel to receive VFW Public Servant Awards.

Candidates must have demonstrated recognition by their colleagues or those they serve, consistent excellence in the performance of their duties and consistent dedication to their official responsibilities over a period of years and continuous growth in responsibilities and skills within their profession.

Captain Venza also received the VFW State Award this year and will be submitted for consideration for the VFW National Award.

Also during the presentation, Fire Chief Alan Jones was presented the VFW Meritorious Service Award.
