The American Red Cross has notified all hospitals in the United States of a critical shortage of red blood cells.

“Blood supply is critical to our ability to serve patients, and we depend on the American Red Cross for this supply,” said Angela Swayne, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. “All Piedmont hospitals are working with the Red Cross to make sure we are appropriately stocked and are taking steps to conserve blood where we can.”

Piedmont is also encouraging all staff members and volunteers who are able, as well as citizens across Georgia, to consider donating blood at an upcoming blood drive. Piedmont Fayette will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 30. The blood drive will take place in Conference Room C on the third floor of the 1279 building on Piedmont Fayette’s campus.

Walk-ins are accepted, but you can schedule a donation at this blood drive, or any other, by visiting redcrossblood.org.
