Angelyn Screws, 94, of Columbus, Ga. passed on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Piedmont Fayette Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services was held 3 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2018 at Striffler-Hamby, with Reverend Mike Reeves officiating. The family received friends Monday, August 27, 2018 from 2 p.m.-3 p.m.
Mrs. Screws was born August 11, 1924 in Andalusia, Ala., the daughter of William Daniel and Sarah Carlie Allen, the middle child of five sisters. She attended high school at Jordan High School. She met the love of her life William A. Screws; together they shared sixty five wonderful years. Mrs. Screws was a big supporter for her entire family, especially for Mr. Screws endeavors through the education system including twenty plus years as principal of Jordan High School. Angelyn worked for Sears for twenty plus years before retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing bridge, and fishing and would visit a casino or two in her day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, Era Bae Stephens, Juanita Moore, Mary Snider and a great granddaughter Kyara Dzenis.
Survivors include two children, Peggy Marie Leonard (Michael) and William A. Screws Jr. (Joanne); five grandchildren, Claire Marie Richards, Allen L. Leonard (Missy), Stephanie Rosehart, Carlie Eugenia Dzenis (Gunars), Matthew L. Leonard (Amy); fourteen great grandchildren, Sarah Beth Griggs,Tiger Griggs, Victoria Richards, Tripp Richards, Daniel Eldridge, Olivia Eldridge, Curtis Leonard, Ansley Leonard, Zoe Leonard, Preston Leonard, Skylar Dzenis, Kassey Dzenis, Michelle Bischoff, and William Leonard; two great grandchildren, Matthew Griggs and Nova Griggs; and one sister, Barbara Ann Johnson.
