Lieutenant Colonel Verley Tate, Jr., 75, of Peachtree City, passed away May 20, 2018.  Verley was born on January 15, 1943 in Johnson City, Tenn. He was the son of the late Verley Tate, Sr. and Chima Tate.

Lieutenant Colonel Tate served 20 years as an Army Aviator and holds nineteen awards and decorations for his service, including the prestigious:  The Army Distinguish Flying Cross for heroism, representing one the militaries highest top awards.  The Army’s Legion of Merit and The Bronze Star.  The Army Air Medal (25 awards) for heroism, signifying 700 combat hours while service in the Republic of Vietnam.

After retiring from the Army, Mr. Tate, who was also an avid golfer, was hired as a Department of Army Civil Service employee. He served as the Golf Program Consultant for U.S. Army Forces Command, where he provided technical advice, financial oversite, and evaluations of all Forces Command Army installation golf programs.

Recognized for his contributions by the Army’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Programs, he was awarded the Order of the White Plume for extraordinary service and accomplishments in support of Soldier and Family Programs.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the charity of your choice.
